Life after Gastric Band Surgery

Gastric band surgery is suitable for weight loss as it restricts the amount of food intake. However it is important to undergo certain change in the lifestyle after the surgery in order to be effective. This blog is intended to give information regarding life after adjustable band surgery.

It is important to follow certain important guidelines regarding diet intake just after the surgery that consist of only liquid diet at least for a week. Gradually the patient should be given semi solid or pureed food grinded in the food processor. It is continued up to a fortnight. As this period is passed safely, the patients can gradually return to normal eating and drinking habits excepting a few food items.

Food that is difficult to digest should be avoided such as dry fruits, nuts, coconut, corn and pasta. Moreover continuous snacking should be avoided and the diet should be divided into 3 to 4 small meals to be taken at regular interval. The diet intake should be stopped at once when there is a feeling of satisfaction as over eating will result in weight gain.

One should also eat the food very slowly and properly for easy digestion. Consumption of water while eating is not allowed as it will cause the food to slip from the alimentary canal without being digested. The patients are allowed to drink plenty of water and fluid such as soups and other beverages.

Little bit of exercise is also advised after 6 months of adjustable band surgery as it helps in keeping the body fit and healthy. It is important to discuss about each and every aspect regarding life after adjustable band surgery.
